Meet Richard

Richard Galiguis is an acclaimed instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer with over two decades of experience in the Southern California music scene. His journey began at the age of 11 when he first picked up the bass guitar, and since then, he has made a significant impact through his contributions to numerous bands, performances, and influential songs.

In the early 2000s, Richard co-wrote and produced several notable albums with Ventura County rock bands such as Greenroom, Sky Walker, and AOA. His move to San Diego marked the beginning of a successful collaboration with Vokab Kompany, with whom he recorded and toured extensively. Together, they earned five San Diego Music Awards for Best Hip-Hop Group. Richard also made an impression as a key member of the house band on the television show Tonight in San Diego for three seasons and has collaborated with breakthrough artists including Heartbreaka, Tolan Shaw, and Trey Aces.

Beyond his musical accomplishments, Richard holds degrees in Biology and Business, and he continues to nurture his passion for drawing and art. Currently, he is embarking on a new musical chapter, focusing on solo instrumental guitar performances for luxury destination weddings and private events. Additionally, he is dedicated to expanding his growing YouTube channel and podcast.

Musical Journey

From a young age, I was captivated by music and the creative arts. My initial dream was to become an artist and animator, but that all changed when a neighbor introduced me to the bass guitar. He taught me to play a few four-note songs that were popular in the ’90s and showed me how to read tablature. As a 6th grader, I was completely hooked.

Music was a constant presence in my home. My dad, a drummer, played in a family band with his siblings. Our attic had been transformed into a music room, complete with a drum kit, PA system, keyboard, and guitars. Accessed by a pull-down staircase in the garage, it was a cozy jam spot adorned with Christmas lights and Japanese lanterns, where my friends and I spent countless hours playing and writing songs. My youngest aunt, a major influence on my musical taste, introduced me to the great music of the ’80s and ’90s, even giving me some of my first cassette tapes.

My musical journey truly began when I moved to Oxnard, California, and started junior high school. I met friends who shared my passion for skateboarding and music, and together we taught ourselves to play the drums, bass, and guitar. After several garage jam sessions and attempts at forming bands, we eventually created Greenroom in our senior year of high school in 2002. Greenroom quickly made a name for itself in the SoCal Skate Punk scene, and some members went on to form Sky Walker, a melodic alternative rock band that achieved success beyond Ventura County, and still continues to make music. We recorded our self-titled album at Studio 201 in 2005 and played shows all over Southern California. Following Sky Walker, I founded AOA, a faster and heavier rock band. AOA recorded Sight For The Blind in 2012 and performed on iconic stages like the Whisky a Go Go and the House of Blues in Hollywood.

After relocating to San Diego, I joined the hip-hop band Vokab Kompany, with whom I’ve toured since 2014. Vokab Kompany has released numerous albums across various genres, toured major music festivals, and shared the stage with legendary acts like Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, and Skrillex. During my time with the band, I was also invited to join the house band for the TV show Tonight in San Diego, where I had the opportunity to meet many of San Diego’s top musicians, as well as other industry professionals and celebrities.

Before my time with Vokab Kompany, I spent six years studying Biology and Business in college, earning degrees in both fields. I also served as the booking manager for one of the only jazz lounges in San Marcos, California.

Today, my focus remains on playing and writing music with Vokab Kompany and Sky Walker. I’m also embarking on a new venture, traveling and performing for luxury destination weddings and private events. When I’m not performing or traveling, I’m writing in my home recording studio, building my YouTube channel, and working on new projects.

Let’s Get Pesonal

As a new father, my wife and I, along with our two pups, recently welcomed our son into the world. When I’m not on stage or in the studio, I cherish spending time with my family, exploring the joys of fatherhood. I’m also passionate about food and cooking, which led me to create KITCHANT, a modern kitchen brand designed for artists. Additionally, I host the Facebook group Soundz Delicious, where I combine my love for music and culinary creativity.

Science remains a significant part of my life, a passion I share with my wife, who is a research scientist at UCSD. Together, we aspire to garden at home, strive to live more sustainably and contribute to a better world for our children.

I’m dedicated to creativity in all its forms and consider myself a lifelong learner. If you’re planning a wedding or event, I’d be thrilled to bring my music to your celebration.
